Support Local Businesses to Transition to Renewable Energy

Support Local Businesses to Transition to Renewable Energy

Businesses and companies tend to use more energy than households, and so need to be considered as key players in an energy transition. It is important that governments hold businesses accountable for playing their part, however local and small businesses may likely find it harder than large corporations to upgrade their infrastructure and energy sources. Local and State governments should provide support to local businesses that incentivise renewable energy use, e.g. grants, subsidies, etc.

Points

Also need to recognise who owns the building, perhaps not just the business occupying it? Also we should have more data on what % energy bills make up costs for households, vs small business, vs schools, vs big business. Its likely that energy is only a small % of the 'business total costs' compared to wages, rent (poss elec included). Also need to give building occupiers potentially choice on elec suppliers?
